Dear Filmmakers:

We wanted to take a short breather from our work on the new Pickford Film Center campaign to update you on the Projections Film Festival and let you know what the future holds for the fest in our new location.

Before we get into that though, we would like to thank all of you for your patience during this transition period as we move towards our goal of providing the very best cinematic experience we can for our community. Our objective during this very intensive period of the project have been to get your work out there in a way that was manageable for us while diligently keeping our energy focused as PFC staff on our campaign. We know this has been a trying time for some of you and we want you to know that we are looking forward to giving your work the presentation it deserves in our new state-of-the-art film center.

The next NW Projections festival will be held in April, 2009, and headed up by Program Director Michael Falter. Michael has been involved on various levels of the event since joining PFC in 2001 and has taken the time over the past months to consult with many of you on what you would like to see in the festival in years to come. Below is a just a glimpse of what is on the horizon including the return of the competition with a new category added.

Award Categories

Submissions are due in February 2009—details on submitting will be posted soon online at www.pickfordfilmcenter.org/projections What’s New for '09

Guerilla Film Project moves to February

Guerilla is growing up and moving out. Look for the popular teen filmmaking competition President’s Day Weekend, in February. GFP entries will be exhibited during Projections, allowing a greater focus on outreach and education for the Guerilla project when not coordinated concurrently with Projections.

Out of competition films

NW Projections 2009 will introduce an ‘Out of Competition’ selection to showcase high profile, regionally produced films. This category will include one narrative feature and one long-form documentary, and will afford the festival an opportunity to attract additional talent to converge and interact with local filmmakers.

Mock Commercial category

Everyone loves to hate the commercials at the big theatre chains. Pickford Film Center invites filmmakers to make a 30 second spot skewering the art of commercials in creative, non-lawsuit inviting ways. More details will be forthcoming.

Returning Festival Faves

For more information about the festival or to inquire about helping out as a volunteer contact Michael at (360) 201-3243 or Michael@pickfordfilmcenter.org. We look forward to working together to produce the very best local and regional festival possible.

Again, thank you for your patience and we can’t wait to see what you’ll be working on.
